- Its Been A Year, Dear Friend... -
1 year 5 weeks ago, we met for the 1st time on an island surrounded by nothing but marching and echoing. A place where most would dislike but can do nothing about. A place where... we can only depend on each other and in a way "survive" as we began our journey together as a platoon. I still remember the 1st nite in our bunks where every1 broke the ice and we started to learn about each other and we all agreed dat the only thing we could do was support each other throughout the 7 weeks. You were always the quiet one who didnt say much.
1 year 4 weeks ago, we were much closer to each other. Managed to remember each others names and maybe which school we came from. We started exchanging each others handphone numbers and recognising the good and bad people in the platoon. Even though we were still felt like strangers to each other, our section never sabo-ed each other and in my opinion performed the best for almost all standbys due to our efforts. You were always working hard on keeping the standards high. We all booked out for the 1st time as we booked out not as individuals but as a section, as a platoon, as friends. You walked away quietly.
1 year 3 weeks ago, the going was getting tough. We mite be unfit as most would say but we werent spared the hot sun and punishments dat every1 else was receiving. We supported each other and minimized damage to ourselves and the rest by not doin stupid things(every1 should noe wad i mean). You kept as going during our bonding sessions at nite in our bunk. We were gettin used to the ups and downs of dis kinda life and pushed on in our drills and maintained our high level of standards being who we are. You smiled through all the obstacles.
1 year 2 weeks ago, further picking up the pace for field camp, we were training for the final march. It was not as long but alot of us struggled and our weakness showed. We lacked what most people would call "unity". Other platoons had majority JC students or poly grads which enables them to have a common understanding of each other. As for us, we can be easily be described as rojak. We did not march in step, did not sing together, did not even eat together on the same table. At the point of the training this should not be the case, but it was. You started to create our common understanding.
1 year 4 days ago, field camp began. You had trouble keeping up and alot of people advised You to fall out but You said No. It was 4 days of intense heat and rain coupled with unique training bringing much laughter and tears to us. It was by far the toughest challenge for us to overcome but we did, You did. We went on to the final training program of the camp and proceed back to line in anticipation for book out. However, in the ferry back to mainland it was here You fell. You... never woke up.
1 year ago, You said bye to us, the section, the platoon, your family and your friends. We know You never wanted to leave but You had no choice. I wished You could still be around so as a section we could still meet up and share what has happened after our 1st yr but I guess its not gonna happen. You may have left us with an empty bed and cabinet but You gave us Your Spirit, Your Perserverance and Your Attitude towards life and the people around You. We will Never forget You.
We sincerely hope You have gone to a better place and We will See You Soon...
