- MJC Prom Night '08 Incognito -
well its been a long long time since i last blogged. due to many stuff dat i gotta handle and the fact dat my com sorta committed suicide and needed to go reformat and aiya confusing... =X anyway im now back to a slower pace of life since the mad rush to do so many things at once after the A lvls haha!
so where to begin zzz. prom was err ok bah (politically correct answer). saw alot of ppl and met up with tonnes of frens and all. but my own highlight was our performance bah. kinda realised it mite screw up(it did) after our 10min rushed sound check with us not even going through 1 song fully on stage. reached there at 2pm and the rest of the time juz slack or crackin lame jokes with the other performers and stuff.
the entire experience was new for me n it was quite fun until u screw up on stage =X din check the hardware of my drums (usually u would expect the event company to do it) but juz the positioning of my drums and cymbals to fit my own playin style so i can err... attack them. dunno y some ppl on forums say got drummers who play with thicker sticks and more violently have a fuller sound (esp bass drum) with more attack. u'll noe if u listen to drums alot. anyway the amps were all marshall (our biggest nightmare after the rehearsal at the tampines jamming with the other performers. arvin and ncc were like "hows my tone/sound/gain/(guitar terms which i dunno)?" coz we were v used to the laney amps at ebenex and to switch to marshall amps which had a different sound was v difficult for them. fortunately they managed to figure it out and i could hear the familiar sound we had during jammin sessions after the 10 precious mins we had. brian positioned himself at diff places of the ballroom to see how we sound and was quite satisfied. until....
until we realised dat the sound engineer would not be here for sound check till 6pm and other performers needed diff settings for their performances. so the settings were all adjusted/changed many many times for diff instruments. wads more we had no monitors! (monitors are speakers or earphones dat allow the performers to hear wad the audience are hearing) so when Punchline went up for the 1st performance, we practically went up there playin deaf coz we could only hear a little echo of wad we played from the back of the ballroom and was throwing off all our timings. wads more my low tom had to drop when i adjusted it between universally speaking and yellow. I REALLY ONLY TOUCHED IT AND IT DROPPED! din noe dat they din even latch the thing properly. comeon lah before our sound check got 1 guy sit there test the sound and tune drums but he din even put them properly. zzz im gettin pissed alrdy.
anyway our performance some say gd some say (insert instrument) was too loud or too soft and mainly could not hear brian singing. heres where im damn pissed...
DATS WADS THE SOUND ENGINEER IS FOR TO MONITOR OUR SOUND AND ADJUST FOR US WHILE WE PLAY AND NOT SIT THERE SHAKE LEG FOR 4HOURS!!!
u dun give us monitors and den slack cb even i can do a better job den u zzz. pardon me im really pissed actually.
ok on the lighter side there were ppl who commented on how we sound and i really wan to thank all of u coz we Punchline will take ur feedback and work from there to improve our sound!
ok will be back soon to blog about other stuff esp my recent camp so cya soon!
